Hayma Kharijiya is a coffee growing region located in the west
of the Sana’a governorate. The main income of this community
grow coffee at an altitude of 1700 - 2300 metres above sea
level.
Hayma Kharijiya is known for its mild and refreshing climate
and fresh air. A series of blue-coloured mountains can be
found here such as the well-known Jabal al-Shaja. The air from
the mountains is so perfectly clear that you can see Yemen
across the horizon.
Bait Subaih Family in Bait Alal consider coffee as a symbol of
pride. They believe that the coffee tree originated on their
land. Some farmers have ownership documents dating back from a
few hundred years. This lots represents the production of 4
farmers. One of the farmers in this lot had a total production
of only 6 kg. The harsh climate could be one of the reasons
for low yield, but no matter how small the harvest is, these
farmers can never abandon their coffee trees.
